MIXED PRINTS

The gingham trend has been around the last few seasons, but this year is the first time I am actually loving it. When I saw these skinny ankle pants at Target, I immediately fell in love with them. Once I tried them on, I fell in love with them even more because they have a great fit. I knew these pants would be a fun closet staple for the spring and summer because of the variety of tops they can be worn with. These pants would look great with solid neutral-colored tops or even solid pops of color, but I thought why not switch it up and style an outfit with mixed prints.

Mixing prints can be intimidating at times, but it is easier than most people think. Common mixed print combinations are stripes and floral, stripes and leopard print, plaid and polka dots, and in this case, stripes and gingham. I initially planned on wearing these pants with a solid blue shirt for a pop of color, but when I also saw this shirt at Target I thought it would look great with the pants. The ruffles at the neckline give the top a feminine and classic look which is a great complement to the preppy style of pants. The stripes on the shirt are noticeable but still subtle, so that’s what makes it work so well with the gingham print.

Since this outfit does have a more feminine and preppy feel to it, I thought my large black bow from Shopbop would the perfect addition. This bow is my favorite one I own because of its large size and high quality. It was a little pricier than I typically want to pay for a hair accessory, but worth every penny. While a pair of flats or mules would look good with this outfit, I decided to dress it up with a pair of simple pointed-toe nude heels. While most of my outfits include some sort of statement earrings, this outfit looked best with a pair of pearl earrings.

I am going to make it a style goal of mine this year to play around with mixed prints more often. I would love to hear some of your favorite mixed print combinations below!
